Necklace Size Guide

Necklace Size Guide

Choose a necklace length that suits your neckline and preferred fit. This guide explains how to measure and compare lengths before ordering from Luna Meets Sun.

The position of a necklace varies with neck size, height, body proportions, and the shape or weight of the design.

Measure a Necklace You Like

  1. Unfasten a necklace that sits where you want it to.

  2. Lay it straight on a flat surface without stretching it.

  3. Measure from end to end, including the clasp.

  4. If it has an extender, record both its shortest and longest wearable lengths.

Measure a pendant separately unless the product listing says it is included in the overall length.

Try a Length Before Ordering

Use a soft measuring tape or non-stretch string to check how a length might sit.

Drape it around your neck at the position you prefer, then measure the full length. Keep it loose enough to feel comfortable.

Try this with the neckline you plan to wear, especially if you want the necklace to sit above or below a collar.

Common Necklace Lengths

Length Approximate style or position
35–40 cm Close-fitting or choker style
40–45 cm Short necklace, often near the collarbone
45–50 cm Often sits just below the collarbone
50–60 cm Longer necklace, generally around the upper chest
70–90 cm Long necklace, often worn over clothing

These are general reference lengths, not a list of sizes available at Luna Meets Sun. The same length can sit differently on different people.

Understanding Extender Chains

An extender allows a necklace to fasten at different lengths within its stated range.

For example, a necklace described as 40 cm + 5 cm extender can usually be worn between approximately 40 cm and 45 cm.

Only designs listed with an extender offer this adjustment. Check the product description rather than assuming a necklace is adjustable.

Pendant & Beaded Necklace Fit

A pendant hangs below the chain and can make the overall design appear longer.

Larger beads, rigid sections, and decorative shapes can also affect how a necklace sits. Review the product measurements and photographs together, rather than relying on chain length alone.

Choosing a Necklace as a Gift

If possible, compare with a necklace the recipient already wears. A design with a stated extender range can offer some flexibility, but it will not suit every fit preference.
